Your Strong Identity
In a world full of comparison, it can be hard to figure out who God has called us to be. As young women, we can know that God loves us and has a purpose for our lives but how do we find our identity in Him when everyone around us is telling us a different story?
When I was fourteen years old, I loved God and had a relationship with Him but all I was striving for was to feel valued and accepted by others. I was not confident in who I was and who God had called me to be, so I continually looked to others to fuel my identity.
What should I be wearing? Who should I be friends with? What do I need to do to be popular and liked?
These thoughts crowded my head during high school as I battled to discover my true purpose in life.
The reality is, we are not alone when we have these thoughts. All of us girls struggle with our identity and confidence in some shape or form.
Ephesians 2:10 says “We have become His poetry, a re-created people that will fulfil the destiny He has given each of us, for we are joined to Jesus, the Anointed One. Even before we were born, God planned in advance our destiny and the good works we would do to fulfil it!”
How amazing is that promise from our God? That even before we were born, He knew exactly who we were and had planned out our purpose and the good works we will do. For this reason, we have no need to worry or fear about our identity as it is found in Him.
Our heart this year at Miss Sistas is that each one of us would discover our own God-breathed purpose and identity and we would learn to stand confident in that. No longer will be defined by others but we will be defined by His truth.
See you soon, Miss Sistas!
